Kaplan University announced this month that students in its online Business Administration degree program can now specialize in three new areas: real estate, wealth management and risk management and insurance.
Kaplan chose to add the specialty areas because those three business sectors will experience strong growth in the future, said Tom Boyd, the dean of Kaplan’s School of Business, in a press release. As the university points out, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics expects employment related to these areas to grow between 11 and 32 percent nationwide between 2010 and 2020.
The new risk management and insurance program teaches students to analyze insurance plans for family, auto, home and other types of insurance, as well as sales skills and the ability to apply risk-management principles to government and business systems; the real estate specialty teaches students about transactions and financing; the wealth management program shows students how to evaluate the different methods of financial planning based on client needs. All three programs prepare students for professional licensing exams in these fields.
“These specializations support the range of professional expertise needed in these areas, in keeping with the evolving market forces driving employment demands in these professions,” Boyd says in the release.
The new focus areas add to more than a dozen others already offered by Kaplan University’s School of Business. Students at Kaplan earn their Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a specialty focus to help them build a career in a specific business area.
Students have the flexibility to choose all of their elective classes within the degree requirements to fit in with their career goals. For example, Kaplan says that if your specialty is in Financial Analysis, the career focus area offers courses in economics and finance that are directly related to the specialized career field.
Kaplan University serves 65,000 students through its online programs and at 70 campus-based schools across the country. The School of Business offers multiple start dates for online students to accommodate different schedules.
