Arkansas Tech University has announced the creation of a Master of Science in Business Administration degree program, the first graduate-level offering from the school’s College of Business. The university is scheduled to offer the new business administration degree, which will include the option of online courses, beginning in the fall of 2013.
The MS in Business Administration will be open to students who did not pursue business as an undergraduate degree. The program will likely bring together students from a variety of academic backgrounds under the common interest of business management, College of Business Dean Ed Bashaw said in a statement on Feb. 27, 2013.
Students in the master’s degree program will be required to complete at least 30 hours of coursework, and the program is designed and scheduled to allow students to graduate within a year.
Arkansas Tech faculty members note that the MS in Business Administration curriculum will emphasize the kinds of practical situations that students will encounter in the workplace.
“From their knowledge base, a graduate of this program would be able to understand how to do budgets and how to hire, train and motivate employees,” Stephen Jones, associate dean of the business college, said in a statement.
Bashaw added that the College of Business is particularly interested in setting objectives for students in the areas of ethics, communication and the use of technology in decision-making.
Arkansas Tech University, which was founded more than 100 years ago, has approximately 11,000 students on its two campuses in Ozark and Russellville. The university offers dozens of associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s degrees through its various colleges, including business, education, natural and health sciences, and applied sciences.
Several degree programs are available 100% online at Arkansas Tech, including an MS in College Student Personnel, an MS in Emergency Management and Homeland Security, and a Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management and Administration.
