Harvard tops the list of business schools with the highest number of billionaire alumni, according to the 2014 Billionaire Census by Wealth-X and USB.

Harvard’s MBA program produced 64 billionaire graduates, nearly three times more than Stanford University, which came in second with 23. Rounding out the top five were Columbia University with 14, the University of Pennsylvania with 12 and the University of Chicago with 10.

Among the top 10 business schools, three were outside of the United States. INSEAD had nine billionaire grads, the International Institute for Management Development in Switzerland had five and the London Business School had four.

Harvard is considered one of the top educational institutions in the world and, in addition to having the most billionaire alumni, it has produced a large number of Rhodes scholars and Nobel laureates.

Among Harvard’s notable billionaire graduates is Jorge Paula Lemann, a banker with major shareholdings in Anheuser-Busch InBev and H.J. Heinz Co.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg both attended Harvard but dropped out.

Ultimately, having an education helps increase the chance of becoming a billionaire, according to the study. Of the 2,325 billionaires worldwide, 65 percent had a college degree.

More than half made their fortunes by themselves without the help of an inheritance and nearly two-thirds founded or joined private companies.

This year’s billionaire count was the highest yet, surpassing last year’s count by 155. Combined, the world’s richest people have a total net worth of $7.3 billion.

The United States has 571 billionaires, the most of any country and which account for nearly 25 percent of the world’s total billionaire population. China has the second most with 190, followed by the United Kingdom with 130.

Among cities worldwide, New York has the largest concentration of the ultra rich (103), followed by Moscow (85) and Hong Kong (82). Only one other U.S. city ranks in the Top 20, and that’s Los Angeles with 25 billionaires. Asia has the most billionaire-studded cities, with eight.
